A former town in Monou District, eastern Miyagi Prefecture. Surrounded by the Kitakami River and the Shin Kitakami River, it has wide rice fields and produces many vegetables. Since the early modern period, the town has been reborn as a rice-producing area due to the Kitakami River improvement work. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Ishinomaki City along with Kahoku Town, Ogatsu Town, Kanan Town, and Kitakami Town in Monou District, and Oshika Town in Oshika District. 43.81 km2 . 8,635 people (2003).
