Atmospheric Turbidity

Japanese: 大気混濁度 - たいきこんだくど

This refers to the degree to which the atmosphere is turbid due to fine particles. It is measured by the degree to which the transparency of the atmosphere is impaired against solar radiation. Perfectly clear air does not exist, and the actual atmosphere contains suspended solid or liquid fine particles such as dust, smoke, and aerosols, which dissipate solar radiation. The ratio τ = k / k _a of the extinction coefficient k of solar radiation by air to the extinction coefficient k _a of pure dry air is called Linke's turbidity factor. In other words, the turbidity factor is a quantity that indicates how many times the extinction coefficient of the atmosphere is compared to that of dry air.

微粒子などで大気が混濁している度合のこと。日射に対して大気の透明度が悪くなっている度合で測定する。完全に清澄な大気は存在せず，実際の大気は塵埃（じんあい），煙，煙霧などの固体または液体の浮遊微粒子を含んでいるので，それらによって日射は消散される。　空気による日射の消散係数kと純粋な乾燥大気の消散係数k_aとの比τ＝k/k_aをリンケLinkeの混濁因子という。すなわち，混濁因子とは大気の消散係数が乾燥空気のそれの何倍にあたるかを示す量である。
