This is a casting method in which molten metal is injected into a mold under pressure and solidified. It has high dimensional accuracy, a smooth casting surface, and does not require machining. The dimensional accuracy is about 0.03% for lead alloys and zinc alloys, and about 0.05% for aluminum alloys, so in this sense it is one of the precision casting methods. The minimum thickness of the casting that can be produced is 0.8 to 1.5 mm for the former and 1.2 to 2.0 mm for the latter. The casting pressure reaches 30 to 50 atmospheres using a piston, so the cooling speed of the molten metal pressed against the mold is extremely fast, and by automating the casting machine, mass production of 1,000 to 2,000 pieces per day is possible. Heat-resistant steel is used for the mold because it must be able to withstand such repeated casting, and zinc alloys and aluminum alloys, which have low melting points, are mainly used for casting.
