[Born] 400 years ago. Betherea, near Gaza
Died: c. 450. Church historian of the Byzantine Empire in Constantinople. While working as a lawyer in Constantinople, he wrote the Ecclesiastical History (Historia ekklēsiastikē) (9 volumes), covering the period from 324 to 425. He endeavored to supplement and correct the Ecclesiastical History by fellow church historian Socrates, and stylistically surpasses it. Its value as a historical source is not so great due to the uncritical quoting of the sources he used.
