apoplexy

... refers to a sudden disturbance of consciousness and motor paralysis caused by a pathological process of the cerebrovascular system, and is also simply called apoplexy. Therefore, stroke is a syndrome and not a disease name. Cerebrovascular disorders do not necessarily show disturbance of consciousness or motor paralysis, but it is often used in a broad sense to mean acute cerebrovascular disorders. In addition, the words chufu (paralysis) and chuuki (paralysis) are sometimes used synonymously with stroke, but generally they often refer to a state in which a stroke leaves one side of the body or other motor paralysis as an aftereffect.
