[Psychoprophylactic painless childbirth]
This method was proposed by GD Read of the UK in 1933. It teaches mothers to fully understand the process of normal childbirth and that childbirth is a physiological phenomenon and should not be painful, while having them practice breathing and relaxing techniques during childbirth from the time of pregnancy. A recent variation of this method is the Lamaze method, invented by F. Lamaze of France. Of the above methods, general anesthesia has a high risk of transferring drugs to the fetus, so it is now common to use general anesthesia only in the first half of childbirth and use local anesthetics such as epidural anesthesia in the second half. However, there is a growing trend among doctors and mothers to prefer psychoprophylactic painless childbirth methods, due to fears of side effects associated with drug use and to help mothers become aware of their new motherhood (motherhood).

　1933年イギリスのリードG.D.Readが提唱した方法で，正常分娩の経過を産婦によく理解させ，お産は生理現象なので本来痛いものではないと教育する一方，妊娠中から分娩時の呼吸法や緊張をとる方法を練習させて分娩を行わせる方法である。これの変法として最近ではフランスのラマーズF.Lamazeが考案したラマーズ法が有名である。　以上の方法のうち全身麻酔法は薬剤が胎児に移行する危険が大きいので，最近では分娩の前半期に限って使用し，後半期には硬膜外麻酔などの局所麻酔剤を使用するのが一般的な方法であるが，反面，薬物使用に伴う副作用を恐れ，かつまた母親となった意識(母性)を自覚させるためにも，精神予防性無痛分娩法を好む風潮が医師にも産婦側にも広がる傾向にある。…
