Asakura Musei - Asakura Musei

Japanese: 朝倉無声 - あさくらむせい
Asakura Musei - Asakura Musei

[Records and research]
Although spectacles were a familiar form of entertainment for the common people, they were not recognized as "art," so records of them are found only in the essays of town enthusiasts. The first comprehensive record of spectacles in Japan was the five-volume Miscellany of Spectacles (records from 1818-42) by Kodera Gyokucho (1800-78), an essayist from Nagoya at the end of the Edo period. This was followed by the Taisho period work Miscellany of Spectacles (1928) by Asakura Musei (1877-1927, real name Kamezo), which based its records on Kodera's records and added research materials to provide a classification system.
