〘noun〙① An official position or office in China that was in charge of the registration and appointment and dismissal of monks and nuns. It began in the Later Qin period of the Five Barbarians and Sixteen Kingdoms, and during the Tang dynasty it was part of the Shrine Department, but during the Song dynasty it became independent and was called the Left and Right Monk Lu Si, and during the Ming dynasty it was in charge of overseeing monks, nuns and temples. Imitating China, it was also established in Korea during the Goryeo period. ※San Tiantai Wutaishanji (1072-73), Volume 7, " Those who follow the records should send a clean copy, and those who can add notes and names should be added , and those who submit names should be polite." [Rokuichi Shiwa]② An organization that governs Zen temples from the mid-Muromachi period to the Edo period. It is in charge of general affairs such as recommending abbots and handling lawsuits over temple land. It succeeded the early Zen Ritsuho. It began in 1379 when Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu appointed Shun'oku Myoha, following the Chinese system. Eventually, the duties were taken on by the head priest of Rokuon-in, a subtemple of Shokoku- ji, and so it is also known as Rokuon Soroku. In July 1615 , the Rokuon Soroku was abolished, and in September 1615, the head priest of Konchi-in, Nanzen-ji , where Ishin Suden lived and who was revered by Tokugawa Ieyasu, was appointed as the Soroku, and the Konchi Soroku was established. 〘名〙① 中国で僧尼の登録や任免を管掌した官職、役所。五胡十六国の後秦時代に始まり、唐代には祠部に属したが、宋代に独立して左右街僧録司、明代に僧録司と称し、僧尼や寺院を統轄した。中国を模倣して、朝鮮でも高麗時代に設けられた。※参天台五台山記(1072‐73)七「従者録許清書送、可付名者、加名進奏了、僧録志丁寧人也」 〔六一詩話〕② 室町中期~江戸時代の禅宗寺院の統率機関。住持の推挙・寺領訴訟の処置などの庶務をつかさどる所。初期の禅律方の後をうけるもの。康暦元年(一三七九)将軍足利義満が中国の制にならって春屋妙葩(しゅんおくみょうは)を任じたのに始まる。やがて業務は相国寺塔頭の鹿苑院(ろくおんいん)院主が兼帯するようになったので鹿苑僧録ともよばれる。元和元年(一六一五)七月鹿苑僧録は廃され、同五年九月以後は徳川家康の崇敬を得た以心崇伝の住した南禅寺金地院(こんちいん)院主が僧録に任ぜられて金地僧録が成立した。僧録司。※鹿王院文書‐康暦元年(1379)一〇月一〇日・将軍足利義満御判御教書「天下僧祿〈禅家〉事、殊為仏法紹隆申也」③ 一般に寺院を統轄し、人事をつかさどる僧職名。また、その事務を執る所。※恩讐の彼方に(1919)〈菊池寛〉三「浄願寺は、美濃一円真言宗の僧録であった」④ 僧の伝記。※円照上人行状(1302)「僧録之興基由此焉」
