Queen of Castile (reigned 1474-1504). Married to Ferdinand, the Crown Prince of Aragon. When her husband became King of Aragon, she co-ruled the two kingdoms to create the Kingdom of Spain. A fervent Catholic, she completed the War of Reconciliation. In recognition of her achievements, she and her husband Ferdinand II (who became King of Castile 5th) were known as the "Catholic Monarchs."
