A ship for transporting raw fish and dried fish, seen mainly on the coasts of Kii Peninsula, Shikoku and Kyushu. It was also called simply "isaba." The Wakun Shiori states that "Isaba is now called Uo-shi," and even today in many places in eastern Japan, this word is still used to mean fish seller or fish shop, so the name "isaba-bune" was based on the purpose it was used for, not on its shape. In fact, their shapes were diverse, ranging from small rowboats to sailing ships with a capacity of over 100 koku. All of these are said to have disappeared around the end of the Taisho era.
