Partito Nazionale Fascista

In the general election of May 1921, 35 fascists, including Mussolini, were elected to the Chamber of Deputies, and although they were small in number, they entered central politics as a new political force. For a while after this, conflict arose between urban fascism, which showed tendencies towards parliamentarism, and rural fascism, which relied on direct action, but a compromise was reached by reorganizing the Combat Fascists into a political party, and in November 1921 the National Fascist Party (Partito Nazionale Fascista) was formed. This opportunity was also used to expand the organization of action squads, and the fascist movement further strengthened its tendency towards militarization as it became a political party.
