King of East Franks (reigned 876-887) and West Franks (reigned 885-887). Also known as "Der Dicke the Fat." Youngest son of East Frankish King Louis II (King of the Germans). In 881, he was the first East Frankish king to receive the Imperial crown, and in 885, he also became King of West Franks. In theory, he succeeded in reuniting the former Frankish Kingdom, but was dethroned by German tribes after failing to prevent the Norman invasion.
