Altiplano (English spelling)

Japanese: アルチプラノ(英語表記)Altiplano
Altiplano (English spelling)
A plateau in the Andes that stretches from about 15° south latitude in southern Peru through Bolivia to the border between Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia (about 23° south latitude). It is 150-250 km wide and 3,500-4,500 m above sea level. It is a structural basin (depression) between the Oriental Mountains, which are made up of marine Palaeozoic strata and granite that runs through them, and the Occidental Mountains, which are made up of volcanic rocks. In the north is the freshwater Lake Titicaca, and the Desaguadero River that flows out of it empties into Lake Poopó, a salt lake with no outlet.
