1761‐1814 (11th year of the Horeki era‐11th year of the Bunka era) A haiku poet of the late Edo period. His family name was Takebe and given name was Hidechika. His pen name was Kinfu. His other names included Kojaku and Shukoan. He was from Senju in Musashi Province and later retired to Sekiya. He was the son of calligrapher Yamamoto Ryusai and excelled in calligraphy, using a Yukei brush technique. He studied painting under Tani Buncho, and Kameda Bosai, a famous calligrapher at the time, said that his paintings had the style of Toba Sojo. He learned haiku from Shirao. He was revered as one of the three great masters of Edo, along with Narumi and Michihiko, and actively exchanged haiku with famous people of the time, such as Shiro, Oemaru, and Otsuni. He was a man of letters who enjoyed drinking and elegant Edo hobbies, and his haiku are filled with a witty and humorous atmosphere that reflects his personality.
