Ibuki Island

It is an isolated island located in the Hiuchi Nada Sea, about 10 km west of Kanonji Port, and belongs to Kanonji City in the western part of Kagawa Prefecture. It is a plateau with agglomerates and pyroxene andesite on granite, and the coast is a cliff. It has an area of ​​1.05 square kilometers and a highest point of 121 meters. The settlement is located on the saddle in the center of the island. Fishing and field farming are practiced, and anchovy catches are large. Fish are caught using patch nets, two-boat purse seine nets, boat drag nets, and set nets, and are processed into dried sardines and shipped nationwide. In the past, the island passed down valuable folk traditions such as "ren" (groups of young people) and the system of host parents. Passenger ships have been operating from Kannonji Port since 1994. Population: 739 (2009).

香川県西部、観音寺(かんおんじ)市に属し、観音寺港沖西方約10キロメートルの燧灘(ひうちなだ)に浮かぶ孤島。台地状で、花崗岩(かこうがん)上に集塊岩や輝石安山岩がのり、海岸部は崖(がけ)になっている。面積1.05平方キロメートル、最高点121メートル。集落は島の中央の鞍部(あんぶ)に立地する。漁業と畑作農業を行い、カタクチイワシの漁獲量は多い。パッチ網、二艘巻揚繰巾着網(にそうまきあぐりきんちゃくあみ)、船引網、敷網などにより漁獲し、煮干しに加工され全国に出荷される。かつては若者組の名残(なごり)の「連(れん)」や宿親(やどおや)の制度など、民俗学上貴重な伝統を伝えていた。1994年（平成6）より、観音寺港から旅客船が通じている。人口739（2009）。
