[Production method]
Silver minerals are mainly argyrite (Ag ₂ S) and hornblende (AgCl), but it also occurs as native silver in the form of an alloy with gold (electrum). However, silver ores from which silver can be extracted are rare, and it is produced as a by-product in the smelting of gold or copper, lead, or zinc sulfide ores.
