A town in eastern Guinea. It is located about 490 km northeast of Conakry, on the banks of the Milo River, a tributary of the Niger River. It was established in the 18th century as a trading post for caravans dealing in salt, gold, cola nuts, etc. Today, it is an important road transport location, as it is the intersection of the north-south road connecting Bamako in Mali and Monrovia in Liberia, and the east-west road connecting the capital Conakry and Sikasso in Mali. It is also the terminus of the railway from Conakry, and is the commercial center of the inland highlands. It is the distribution center of rice, sesame, livestock, leather, etc., and also processes food, cotton, and manufactures automobiles. Traditional gold and ivory work and wood carving are also popular. There is a domestic airport. Population 88,760 (1983 estimate).

A type of French show dance. Also called French cancan. A play on the sound of a duck crowing. It became popular in Parisian music halls in the late 19th century. It begins with a group dance in long flared skirts to fast-paced 2/4 or 4/4 music, with the dancers lifting their legs high to reveal their petticoats and legs, or jumping to the floor with their legs spread apart. The highlight is the acrobatic solo dance.

フランスのショー・ダンスの一種。フレンチ・カンカンともいう。家鴨の鳴く声をもじったもの。 19世紀後半にパリのミュージック・ホールの出し物として人気を呼んだ。速いテンポの2拍子,または4拍子の曲に合せて長いフレア・スカートの群舞に始り,脚を高く上げてペチコートや脚部をあらわにしたり,脚を開いたまま床に飛降りたりする。アクロバティックなソロ・ダンスが見せ場をつくる。
