...A prehistoric culture of American Indians that developed in the desert region of southwestern North America (southern Arizona). It is divided into the pioneering period (100 BC-500 AD), colonial period (500-900), settlement period (900-1100), and classic period (1100-1400), and is considered to be the ancestral culture of the present-day Pima and Papago peoples. Snaketown, Los Muertos, Casa Grande, and Pueblo Grande in the Gila River basin are the main ruins of the Hohokam culture.
