Song Ok

Date of birth and death unknown. A cifu writer from the state of Chu in the late Warring States period in China. His biography is unclear, but ancient records suggest that he was from Yan (Yicheng County, Hubei Province) in Chu. He was born of poor background and became a minor official in the service of King Qiang (reigned 298-263 BC). He eventually joined the literary circles of the Chu court together with Tang Le and Jing Cha, and distinguished himself with his seductive and beautiful style of writing. His style can be said to be the forerunner of the cifu written at the court of the Han dynasty that developed later. It is said that he originally wrote 16 pieces of cifu, but the only ones that have been handed down to date are "Nine Tales" and "Zhao Souls" from "Chu Ci," and "Fu on the Wind," "Fu on the Gao Tang," "Fu on the Divine Maiden," and "Fu on the Luo of the Duke's Loveliness" from "Wen Xuan." Both works are full of sweet and sad lyricism.

生没年不詳。中国、戦国末期の楚(そ)国の辞賦(じふ)作家。伝記も明らかでないが、往古の記録から推せば、楚の鄢(えん)（湖北省宜城県）の人。貧士の出身で、頃襄(けいじょう)王（在位前298～前263）に仕えて小官となり、やがて唐勒(とうろく)・景差(けいさ)とともに楚の宮廷文壇に参加し、なまめかしく美しい作風をもって頭角を現したらしい。彼の作風は、以後に展開する漢代宮廷辞賦の先駆をなすものといえる。その作品は、もと16編あったといわれるが、現在伝わる辞賦のうち、ほぼ確実なものは、『楚辞』所収の「九弁」「招魂」、『文選(もんぜん)』所収の「風賦」「高唐賦」「神女賦」「登徒子好色賦」の六編。いずれも甘美で哀切な叙情に富む作品である。
