…A worldwide organization based on Christian faith, with the goal of educating young men and serving society. It was first organized in London in 1844 by 12 young men, led by George Williams, a 22-year-old dry goods merchant. It then spread rapidly throughout Europe and the United States, and held a world convention in Paris in 1855.
