Mandarin fish

Japanese: ケツギョ

It is a general term for freshwater fishes belonging to the Siniperca genus of the family Serranidae in the order Perciformes, or refers to one of these species. It is found from the Korean Peninsula to southern China. In Japan, a closely related species, the Oyanirami (illustration), is found in rivers in western Japan, but this genus is not found. However, because it tastes good and is edible, attempts have been made in Japan to artificially hatch and cultivate the Korean mandarin fish (S. scherzeri ) S. chuatsi. The mandarin fish S. chuatsi , also known as the Chinese mandarin fish, lives in the large rivers from the Amur River to Guangdong Province and the lakes and ponds that follow them, but not in the upper reaches.

スズキ目ハタ科ケツギョ属Sinipercaに属する淡水魚の総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。朝鮮半島から中国南部にまで分布する。日本には近縁種のオヤニラミ（イラスト）が西日本の河川に分布しているが，本属魚類は分布していない。しかし，味がよく，食用にもなるので，日本でもコウライケツギョ(朝鮮語名ソカリ)S.scherzeriの人工孵化（ふか）と養殖の試みがなされている。ケツギョS.chuatsiはシナケツギョとも呼ばれ，アムール川から広東省までの大河とそれに続く湖沼にすむが，上流域にはいない。
