Senbakoki - Thousand-toothed threshing

Japanese: 千歯扱き - せんばこき

Also called Senba (comb-like). A farm tool with sharp iron, bamboo, or wooden teeth arranged like a comb to thresh rice, wheat, and other grains. Invented during the Genroku period (1688-1704), Kurayoshi in Hoki was a famous producer of iron Senba threshers. Due to its low efficiency and the large amount of broken ears, it has now been replaced by powered threshers and combine harvesters.

千歯（把）とも。くし状に並んだ先端のとがった鉄，竹あるいは木製の歯でイネ，ムギなどの穀粒を扱きおとす農具。元禄年間（1688年−1704年）に発明され，伯耆(ほうき)倉吉は鉄千歯扱きの名産地であった。能率の悪さと多くの穂切れを生ずるため，現在では動力脱穀機，コンバインにかえられている。
