The coast facing Sagami Bay in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a general term for the sandy coastline from Inamuragasaki east to Iijimagasaki on the border with Zushi City. Currently, it refers to the area from the mouth of Namerigawa River to the west. With the opening of the Yokosuka Line in the mid-Meiji period, it was opened as a swimming beach, and now the facilities are well-equipped and attract many beachgoers. The area east of the mouth of Namerigawa River that continues east of this is called Zaimokuza Coast, and Wakaejima is the oldest surviving port ruins, built during the regent Hojo Yasutoki of the Kamakura Shogunate (1232), and is a nationally designated historic site. Repairs were covered by collecting tolls (port fees) from the many ships that came in and out of the area. Currently, the Shonan Road runs along the coast.
