Born: August 28, 1740 / September 8, 1740, Stockholm [Died] February 26, 1814. Stockholm. Swedish sculptor. He studied in Stockholm and Paris, and worked in Rome from 1767 to 1778, where he attracted attention with his Faun (1769-1770). In 1778 he returned to Stockholm and became a court sculptor and professor at the Academy, producing many sculptures, drawings, and caricatures, including Gustav III (1790-1808). His style began with the elegance of the Rococo, and later, through his study of classical sculpture, he played a pioneering role in the neoclassicism of B. Thorvaldsen and others.
