The Bluestocking Society is translated as "Seito group." It was a literary salon founded around 1750 by Elizabeth Montagu (1720-1800), Lady Montagu of England, and others as a place for intellectual conversation in which women could also participate. The name came from the fact that one of the regulars wore blue stockings. Participants included H. Walpole, Dr. Johnson, and Hannah More (1745-1833). Today, it is used as a derogatory term for female writers and literature lovers. → Related topics Seito | Montague Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
