The sacred texts of the Hindu Shakta sect, which worships the sexual power of Shiva (śakti). There are 64 or 192 types. They are said to have been created around 800, but some Tantras were created as early as the 7th century. The contents are composed of four parts that explain and prescribe (1) theoretical doctrine, (2) yoga, (3) the construction of temples and the making of idols, and (4) religious rituals, but the last part makes up the majority of Tantra. As a doctrine, it theoretically positions the goddess, who is an incarnation of Shakti. As a practical practice, yoga has been preached since ancient times. In Buddhism, many Tantric scriptures were also created, probably from around the 7th century.
