Ikegami-Sone ruins

Japanese: 池上･曾根遺跡 - いけがみそねいせき

The remains of a Yayoi period settlement are found in the area of Ikegami-cho, Izumi City, Osaka Prefecture, and Sone-cho, Izumiotsu City. Its existence has been known since the early Showa period, but excavation surveys conducted in conjunction with the construction of the Second Hanwa National Highway, which began in 1969, uncovered a ditch believed to have surrounded a settlement from the early Yayoi period, a large ditch from the middle Yayoi period, remains of dwellings, and a cemetery. The extent of the ruins is estimated to be 1,000m east to west and 800m north to south, but while the early settlement is estimated to be about 300m north to south, the middle period settlement was larger, stretching 600m north to south.

大阪府和泉市池上町および泉大津市曾根町一帯に存在する弥生時代の集落跡。昭和初年からその存在が知られていたが，1969年に開始された第2阪和国道建設に伴う発掘調査によって，弥生時代前期の集落をめぐると推定される溝や，中期の大溝，住居跡，墓地等が検出された。遺跡の範囲は東西1000m，南北800mと推定されるが，前期の集落が南北約300mと推定されるのに比べて，中期には南北600mと大規模なものとなる。
