Séraphine (English spelling)

Séraphine (English spelling)

September 2, 1864 - December 11, 1942
French painter.
Born in Arcy, Oise.
Her real name was Séraphine (Louis).
Also known as Séraphine de Senlis.
While working as a housekeeper in Senlis, she engaged in creative endeavors, and in 1912 was discovered by Ude, a collector and researcher of naive art. Many of her motifs are flowers, and her fantastical, mystical paintings have an outpouring of madness to them. In her later years, she suffered from mental disorders and passed away in a psychiatric hospital. Her main works include "Bunch of Roses" (1928).
