Jeolla-do (English spelling)
The region on the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula. One of the eight provinces of Korea, also known as the Honam region. Currently part of South Korea, it is administratively divided into the provinces of North and South Jeolla and Gwangju Metropolitan City. [Nature]
Most of the country is covered by hilly mountain ranges about 500 meters high, centered on the Lunyeong and Sobaek Mountains, which run from northeast to southwest, but in the north there is the Honam Plain, the largest in Korea, stretching 50 km east to west and 80 km north to south, as well as the Naju Plain in the Yeongsan River basin, which flows between the two mountain ranges, and is considered Korea's number one grain-producing region.
