...The Immortal Life of Choitonna by Kṛṣṇadās, a biography of Choitonna, is also a masterpiece of this period. On the other hand, the Shakt school wrote many miracle stories about the gods Monosha and Chondi, such as Kobikonkon Mukundram's Miracle of Chondi (late 16th century or early 17th century) and Bharatchandra's Miracle of Onnoda (1752). Modern Bengali literature was formed in the midst of the modernization movement in Bengali culture as a whole, known as the Bengal Renaissance, by intellectuals who grew up against the backdrop of the spread of modern education in English.
