In response to this, the Kai clan, the shugodai (military governor), gained more influence and became increasingly tyrannical, and the local lords who became powerful vassals of the Shiba clan resented this, and supported Yoshitoshi in their conflict with the Kai clan, which finally escalated into armed conflict in 1458 (Choroku 2) (Choroku War). Toshikage (Takakage), the seventh head of Asakura Hirokage, who entered Echizen from Tajima Province during the conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts, allied with the Kai clan and won the Choroku War, but the day after the battle, Kai Masahisa suddenly died, which led to Toshikage's power becoming even stronger, and he deposed Yoshitoshi and appointed Yoshikazu, a branch of the Shiba clan, as shugo. …
