Seville is the capital of the province of the same name in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. It has a population of 645,817 (1981). It is the largest city in Andalusia, located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, and has the country's only inland port. It is the commercial, industrial, and cultural center of the region. It is also a large market for agricultural products in the province, and related industries include olive oil, beer, and tobacco manufacturing, as well as modern industries such as chemicals, textiles, aircraft, and agricultural machinery. It is also the tourist center of southern Spain, and is home to the Arab heritage of the Torre del Oro (13th century) in Seville Port, the Alcázar (Royal Palace), the 98-meter-tall Giralda Tower in the old town, and below it the Gothic Cathedral (15th century), the third largest in Europe.
