Schoetensack, O.

...One of the fossil humans. In 1907, a fossil of a human mandible was discovered in a gravel quarry near Mauer, about 10 km southeast of Heidelberg, Germany, and the following year O. Schoetensack announced that it was Homo heidelbergensis . The bone fossils found belong to the middle Pleistocene fauna, but there are two theories regarding their relationship to the glacial period: the first interglacial period and the Mindel glacial period.
