A cappella is a group of musicians who composed church music in the strict a cappella style, mainly in Rome, from the late 16th century to the early 17th century. Representative composers include Palestrina, Giovanni Maria Nanino (c. 1545-1607), Francesco Soriano (1549-1621), Giovanni Francesco Anerio (c. 1567-1630), and the Spaniard Victoria. In the 17th century, the term "stile antico" (old style) refers to the group of musicians who composed religious music in the style of Palestrina and others.
