This is a metamorphism in which rocks change due to contact or proximity with igneous rock bodies, associated with the intrusion or eruption of magma. The source of the necessary heat is often assumed to be a nearby intrusive body such as granite, and the supply of heat from the intrusive magma is often emphasized. Heat is transported not only by conduction but also by volatile components such as water released from the rock body to the surrounding area [Delesse: 1857]. Special metamorphism [Delesse: 1857], juxtaposition metamorphism [Daubree: 1862]. Source: Asakura Publishing Dictionary of Petrology Information |
