Contact metamorphism

Japanese: 接触変成作用 - せっしょくへんせいさよう（英語表記）contact metamorphism

This is a metamorphism in which rocks change due to contact or proximity with igneous rock bodies, associated with the intrusion or eruption of magma. The source of the necessary heat is often assumed to be a nearby intrusive body such as granite, and the supply of heat from the intrusive magma is often emphasized. Heat is transported not only by conduction but also by volatile components such as water released from the rock body to the surrounding area [Delesse: 1857]. マグマの貫入や噴出に関連して，火成岩体と接触するか近接することによって岩石が変化する変成作用である．必要な熱の供給源は近くにある花崗岩などの貫入岩体を推定することが多く，貫入マグマからの熱の供給を重視する場合が多い．熱は伝導によるだけでなく岩体から周囲へ放出される水などの揮発性成分によって運ばれる［Delesse : 1857］．特殊変成作用（special metamorphism）［Delesse : 1857］，並置変成作用（juxtaposition metamorphism）［Daubree : 1862］．
