Characters inscribed on a type of stone drum discovered in Baoji County, Shaanxi Province, China, from the early Tang Dynasty. The stone drums are round and round, and are said to have originally contained more than 700 characters, but only 272 remain today. They are thought to have been made in Qin around the 5th century BCE, and are currently kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing. It was previously said that King Xuan of Zhou gave them to meritorious subjects during hunting expeditions, but this theory is no longer supported by many today.
