Religious sect registration - Religious sect registration

Religious sect registration - Religious sect registration
In the Edo period, this was a basic household register prepared by each village (town) and submitted to the feudal lord. It is also called the shumon jinbetsucho (religious sect register), shuji jinbetsucho (religious principle register), or shumon taicho (religious sect register). Originally, the shumon taicho (religious sect register) was conducted separately to suppress Christians, and the jinbetsu taicho (religious sect register) was conducted to check the feudal lord's ability to pay for household labor. However, after the Kanbun period (1666-1673), these were combined and institutionalized. In the case of Shogunate territories, the names and ages of the head of the household, family members, servants, and subordinates, as well as the temple of the temple of each person were recorded, and the temple of the temple of each person was stamped with the seal of the temple of the temple to prove that they were not Christians. For the head of the household, the status, land holdings, number of cattle and horses, etc. were generally also recorded, but the format varied depending on the feudal domain. Until the Jinshin Koseki was created in 1872, this played the role of the current family register.
