A term used to classify Kabuki-Kyogen, broadly referring to plays performed using Joruri. In this sense, Gidayu-Kyogen, which was introduced from Ningyo-Joruri, is included in this category. However, it is usually used as a general term to classify Kabuki dance, as opposed to Nagauta-mono, which uses Nagauta as accompaniment, and refers to those with Joruri as accompaniment. These include Gidayu-bushi, Bungo-bushi-based Tomimoto, Tokiwazu, Kiyomoto, Shinnai, and dances by Itchu, Kawato, etc. They became popular during the Horeki period (1751-64), and were very well received because, compared to Nagauta-mono, they had more narrative and dramatic content, and the dance expanded from female roles to include leading and villain roles.
