(1) A breed of rabbit (illustration). Native to the Ankara region of Turkey (formerly known as Angola), this fur breed was developed in England and France. It is medium-sized (weighing 2.5-3.5 kg), has short ears, and is covered in soft, long fur. It comes in a variety of colors, including white, brown, gray, and black, but the most popular are white rabbits. The fur can reach a length of 15 cm and is beautiful and silky. It is sheared three or four times a year, and produces about 500 g of down. Because the fur lacks medulla, it is light and has excellent heat retention, and is used for yarn and textiles.
