Stone forest

Japanese: 石林 - せきりん

A scenic spot located about 90km southeast of Kunming , the capital of Yunnan Province, China. You can see the strange sight of large stone pillars, 20-30m high, standing in a forest on a plateau of ^11.92m2 . 270 million years ago, the stone forest was on the seabed, but crustal movement made it land, and the erosion of rain and groundwater gave it its current appearance. The Great Stone Forest is the area in the center of the stone forest, and has a 7km long promenade. To the east of the Great Stone Forest is the Small Stone Forest, famous for its stone peaks called " Ashima ." Outside the Great Stone Forest is the Outer Stone Forest, which has two ponds, Stone Forest Lake and Lion Pond, and both the Great Stone Forest and the Small Stone Forest can be seen from the top of Lion Mountain. ◇It can also be read as "Shilin."

中国の雲南省の省都、昆明(こんめい)（クンミン）から南東約90kmにある景勝地。高さ20～30mの大石柱が11.92m²の台地に林立する奇観を望むことができる。2億7000万年前、石林は海底だったが、地殻変動によって陸地となり、雨や地下水の浸食作用で現在の姿になった。大石林は石林の中心にあるエリアで、全長7kmの遊歩道が設置されている。大石林の東側に小石林があり、「阿詩瑪(あしま)」と呼ばれる石峰で名高い。大石林の外側にあるのが外石林で、石林湖と獅子池という2つの池があり、獅子山の頂上からは大石林と小石林を望める。◇「シーリン」とも読む。
