Wood-hoopoe (English spelling)
A general term for birds of the family Phoeniculidae in the order Coraciiformes. This family is closely related to the family Hoopoe, and consists of six species of the genus Phoeniculus and two species of the genus Phinopostus . They are found in sub-Saharan Africa. They are about 20-45 cm long. All species have slender bodies and long tails. Their beaks are long and thin, and except for one species, they are sickle-shaped or crescent-shaped. The white-faced wood-humpbacked Phoeniculus bollei has a red beak, a white head, and the rest of its body is shiny dark green or dark purple.

ブッポウソウ目カマハシ科Phoeniculidaeの鳥の総称。この科の鳥はヤツガシラ科と近縁で,モリヤツガシラ属Phoeniculus6種とカマハシ属Phinopomastus2種からなり,サハラ砂漠以南のアフリカ大陸に分布する。全長約20~45cm。どの種も体はほっそりしていて,尾が長い。くちばしは細長く,1種を除き,鎌型あるいは三日月刀型に湾曲している。カオジロモリヤツガシラPhoeniculus bolleiは,くちばしは赤く,頭部は白く,他の部分は光沢のある濃緑色ないし濃紫色。
