Japanese: 圃場整備 - ほじょうせいび

This refers to a series of land improvement projects that improve existing paddy fields and farmland to create farmland with better infrastructure. Improving the infrastructure to create good farmland means developing fields that produce stable, high yields (high land productivity) while also allowing for easy introduction of agricultural machinery and easy labor (high labor productivity), and also making the fields highly capable of preserving farmland so that these can have lasting effects. Specific content of field improvement projects with this purpose includes expanding, shaping, and improving the shape of plots, as well as land readjustment to group scattered farmland together, construction of farm roads, construction of irrigation and drainage channels, soil layer improvement, construction of soil topping, bed compaction, underdrainage, and soil conservation work.

既成の水田や畑を，よりよい基盤条件をもつ農地に整備する一連の土地改良をいう。よい農地になるようにその基盤を整備するとは，安定した多収穫の農地である(土地の生産性が高い)と同時に，農業機械が容易に導入でき，また労働が容易に行える(労働の生産性が高い)圃場に整備することであり，それらが永続的な効果を発揮するために農地保全上の能力も高い圃場にすることでもある。このような目的をもつ圃場整備の具体的内容には，区画形状を拡大かつ整形し，改良するとともに，分散した農地を集団化する区画整理のほか，農道を整備したり，用･排水路の整備，土層改良，客土･床締め･暗きょ排水の諸施工，土壌保全工事などがある。
