Giving things to monks, beggars, etc. ※Ryōiki (810-824), vol. 2: "The groom's son-in-law, Tokugawa Ieyasu, made a donation to the monks. The monk who had been thrown into the sea here extended his hand and received the execution." ※Kanazoshi, Usōshi (1632), vol. 2 : "The one who is asked to do so is not shy. In front of the Buddha, the execution is carried out . " ② = Shigyo (execution) ①※Genpei Jōsuiki (before the 14th century), vol. 13: "The execution was carried out by the Genji clan and others in various provinces. The document states that." ③ ⇒ Shikou (execution) [Additional note] In addition to the Go-on reading of "execution," the Kan-on reading "shikou," the Go-Kan mixed reading "sekō," and the Kan-Go mixed reading "shigyo" are also used. In modern times, "shikou" is the norm, but in legal terms, where a law or the like is enacted and its effect actually takes effect, "sekō" is commonly used.

Shi-kou ‥kau [Enforcement]

〘名〙 (「し」は「施」の漢音、「ぎょう」は「行」の呉音)① 実行すること。命令を実施すること。命令を伝達すること。命令を伝達して実行させること。せぎょう。しこう。※続日本紀‐神亀五年(728)二月丙子「苅夷姧党。除滅賊悪。冝国司莫一レ衆。仍以二月十二日常施行」※樵談治要(1480)「法令のさだむるところ理に当りておこなはるる事を施行せざるを違勅の人といひて一段の罪科あるなり」② 「しぎょうじょう(施行状)」の略。※沙汰未練書(14C初)「施行とは御使副状也」[補注]幕府等の命令を実行する意での「施行」については、「しぎょう」とよむべきである、また「しぎょう」「せぎょう」のどちらでもよい、という二説がある。

し‐こう ‥カウ【施行】

〘名〙 (「し」は「施」の、「こう」は「行」の漢音)① ほどこし行なうこと。政策などを実行すること。せぎょう。しぎょう。※太平記(14C後)二五「今年大嘗会を可被行とて、武家へ院宣を被成下。武家是を施行(シカウ)して、国々へ大嘗会米を宛課(あておお)せて」 〔史記‐張釈之伝〕② 公布された法令の効力を現実に発生させること。※西洋事情(1866‐70)〈福沢諭吉〉初「合衆国の法律を施行し叛賊を圧伏し敵国の侵襲を防ぐため郷兵を募ること」③ ⇒せぎょう(施行)[補注]法律用語としては「せこう(施行)」と読む慣用もある。
