A light bulb that radiates infrared rays and utilizes their properties. While most of the radiant energy from ordinary light bulbs is infrared, infrared light bulbs are designed with a lower filament temperature (color temperature 2000-2500 Kelvin) to increase the relative infrared output. They are generally reflective, long-lasting, and have a large capacity (250 watts, 500 watts, etc.). Infrared light bulbs radiate a lot of heat and are highly permeable to the object they are irradiated with, so they are used for heating, drying, and heating in industry and the livestock industry. In addition, their heat retention effect promotes blood circulation and sweat secretion, so they are also used in beauty and medical applications. Quartz tubes are rod-shaped, so they are used in small heating furnaces, fixing electronic copiers (copy machines), paint drying, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, etc.

Infrared light bulbs are an efficient source of infrared light. Halogen heaters, which are light bulbs that have been converted to halogen bulbs, are also popular in this field.

赤外線を放射させ、その性質を利用する電球。普通の電球からの放射エネルギーも大部分は赤外線であるといってよいが、赤外線電球では、フィラメントの温度を低く（色温度2000～2500ケルビン）設計し、赤外線の相対出力をさらに多くしてある。一般に反射形のものが多く、長寿命、大容量（250ワット、500ワットなど）である。赤外線電球は熱放射が多く、照射物への透過性もよいため、工業や畜産業などで加熱、乾燥、暖房などに利用されている。さらに保温効果により血液の循環、汗の分泌などを促進するので、美容や医療などにも使われている。また石英管形は棒状なので、小型の加熱炉や電子複写機（コピー機）の定着、塗装乾燥、半導体製造装置などに使用されている。

　赤外線を得る手段としては、赤外線電球は効率のよい光源である。電球をハロゲン電球化したハロゲンヒーターもこの分野では普及している。
