Seki [town] - Seki
An old town in Suzuka County, northern Mie Prefecture. The main settlement is located at a strategic point where the Tokaido and Yamato Kaido roads intersect, and developed as a settlement at the foot of the Suzuka Pass. The Suzuka Barrier was located here, and the town prospered as a post town in the early modern period. The Kansai Main Line and Meihan National Highway pass through the town, and the Ise Expressway branches off here. The town produces rice and tea. It is a producer of high-quality timber such as cedar and cypress. Incorporated into Kameyama City in January 2005. 79.88 km2 . 7,120 people (2003).
