An old town in Suzuka County, northern Mie Prefecture. The main settlement is located at a strategic point where the Tokaido and Yamato Kaido roads intersect, and developed as a settlement at the foot of the Suzuka Pass. The Suzuka Barrier was located here, and the town prospered as a post town in the early modern period. The Kansai Main Line and Meihan National Highway pass through the town, and the Ise Expressway branches off here. The town produces rice and tea. It is a producer of high-quality timber such as cedar and cypress. Incorporated into Kameyama City in January 2005. 79.88 km2 . 7,120 people (2003). 三重県北部,鈴鹿郡の旧町。主集落は東海道,大和街道が交わる要衝にあり,鈴鹿越えの麓集落として発達,鈴鹿関が置かれ,近世は宿場町として繁栄した。関西本線,名阪国道が通じ,伊勢自動車道が分岐する。米,茶を産する。スギ,ヒノキなど優良材の産地。2005年1月亀山市へ編入。79.88km2。7120人(2003)。
