Japanese: サケビドリ(叫鳥) - サケビドリ（英語表記）screamer

A general term for birds of the Anhimidae family, native to South America, of which three species are known. Their body shape is similar to that of geese, with a small head and a thick body. Overall length is 60-90 cm. Their beak is relatively short and curved into a hook at the end. Their legs are strong and thick, with vestigial webbed feet, allowing them to walk and swim freely, and they often perch on shrubs. They have two horny claws at the front end of each wing, which they use as powerful weapons against predators. Notable anatomical characteristics include the lack of hook-like projections on their ribs, the presence of many air sacs on their bones, and a spongy air layer under their skin like that of pelicans.

カモ目サケビドリ科Anhimidaeの鳥の総称。南アメリカ特産で3種が知られている。体型はガン類に似て，頭が小さく，体が太めである。全長60～90cm。くちばしは比較的短く，先がかぎ状に曲がる。脚は強く，太く，痕跡的な水かきがあり，歩くのも泳ぐのも自由で，灌木の上などにもよく止まる。翼の前端には角質のつめが2本ずつあり，外敵に対して強力な武器として使われる。著しい解剖学的特徴として，肋骨にかぎ状の突起がなく，骨には多くの気胞があり，ペリカン類のように皮下に海綿状の空気層をもっている。
