Long-billed ringed plover

A bird of the Charadriidae family of the Charadriidae order of the Aves class. Total length is about 20.5 cm. The upper part of the body is grayish brown, and the underside is white. The face is white except for the black area from the base of the beak to the ear feathers, just like the top of the head, and there is a black band on the neck. There is a pale flesh-colored ring around the eye. The sexes are the same color. It is found in the far eastern part of the Asian continent. It is also found throughout Japan, and breeding has been confirmed in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. It lives on the sandbars in the middle reaches of rivers, builds simple nests in the sand or gravel of the riverbed, and lays 3 to 4 eggs.

鳥綱チドリ目チドリ科の鳥。全長約20.5センチメートル。体の上面は灰色みのある茶褐色、下面は白色。顔は嘴(くちばし)の基部から耳羽までが頭上と同じく黒いほかは白色で、頸(くび)に黒帯がある。目の周りが薄い肉色の輪になっている。雌雄同色。アジア大陸極東部に分布する。日本でも全国に分布し、繁殖は本州、四国、九州で認められている。川の中流の中州にすみ、川原の砂地や砂利地に簡単な巣をつくり、3～4卵を産む。
