Also known as the World Federation of Scientists. An international organization of scientists founded in Prague in September 1948 with the adoption of a constitution and a charter for scientists. Its objectives include (1) the preservation and development of science, (2) the responsibility of scientific workers for the legitimate use of science, and (3) the promotion of international cooperation among scientists to improve the living and working conditions of scientific workers. Its headquarters are in London. Scientific organizations from 28 countries are affiliated with the organization, with a total membership of approximately 300,000.
