A former town in Kita District, central Ehime Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, with the main settlement developing in the basin of a tributary of the Hiji River. It has long been the center of Ozu-hanshi paper production, and now has a machine-made paper factory. The town is famous for its kite battles made from washi paper. 愛媛県中部,喜多郡の旧町。大部分が山地で,肱(ひじ)川支流の盆地に主集落が発達。古来大洲(おおず)半紙生産の中心をなし,今は機械すきの工場がある。和紙製の凧(たこ)合戦は有名。2005年1月上浮穴郡小田町と内子町へ編入。38.49km2。6002人(2003)。
