Year of death: Bunka 3.1.12 (1806.3.1) Year of birth: March 10, 1732 (April 4, 1732) A literary figure of the mid-Edo period. The daughter of Arakida Taketo, the assistant chief priest of the Naiku Shrine of Ise, she was adopted at the age of 13 by her uncle, Keitoku Takeyuki, the priest of the Geku Shrine. She grew up in a literary family and acquired a thorough knowledge of Japanese, Chinese and Buddhist theories. From the time she married Keitoku Iemasa at the age of 22, she focused on renga (linked verse) and prose poetry to develop her talents. In her 40s, she began a full-fledged literary career. Her historical stories, such as "Ike no Mokusu" (Mokusatsu of the Pond) and "Tsuki no Yukue" (Where the Moon Goes), which are based on historical texts from the Middle Ages and Middle Ages, are all masterpieces written in elegant pseudo-classical Japanese. She left behind a vast body of work, including waka poetry, haiku and travel writing. Her teacher of Chinese classics, Jiangmura Hokkai, commented that her style of poetry was "gentle and gentle, without losing the original color of the bedroom," and included one of her poems from "Theme Paintings," "The willows flow along the green river, the spring breeze leans on the orchid boat, the houses are far away behind the mountain range, I imagine the long companionship of the deer playing," in "History of Japanese Poetry" (vol. 2). <Works> Izuno Tatsu (ed.), "Collection of Tales of Beautiful Arakida" <References> Mimura Takekiyo, "Arakida Beautiful," "A Tale of Beautiful Women: An Extravagant Explanation" (Japanese Bibliographical Series 23, "Collection of Mimura Takekiyo," vol. 7) (Robert Campbell) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
